dearly missed; Yasmin Ahmad.

it was just another sleepy morning in school when i heard form a friend about the news that one of my favourite directors of all time, Yasmin Ahmad suffered a stroke. the news startled me of course but like any other fan i just thought that she'll get better soon.

then, on July 25th, me, and other millions of people were shocked to hear that our storyteller, has passed on. i was actually on the way to my tuition when i heard the news and i actually paused myself for a minute. i really just froze and somehow i had a fast flashback of Sepet, Gubra and Mukhsin all rolled into one film in my mind.

then, i thought to myself. who would make all those movies now? who would make the commercials during raya that i actually wait for to watch? who would tell the story?

but i guess it just means that Allah S.W.T loves Yasmin Ahmad more. maybe the works that she did is enough to last us for a lifetime.

being sixteen, i cannot say that i was a really devoted fan. however, i made it a point to watch every one of her movies and i usually end up repeating them over and over again. there's just something different, something special in her works that makes me feel just warm and happy after watching them. my uncle who is actually one of her friends i daresay, got me tickets to the premiere of her movie, Gubra. it was such a good movie and i even stood up to give her a standing ovation at the end.

Dear Yasmin,

your works are so far one of the greatest i have watched. you were really the best storyteller to me. i'll make sure that my grandchildren would watch your movies and i know that they will enjoy it as much as i do. you will be dearly missed.

Al-fatihah.
